Earlier this morning, in our Home Depot Black Friday 2017 deal post, Barbara asked:
I’m looking for a good deal on the DeWalt Scroll Saw. Has anyone seen anything?
I was prepped to reply with a link to Acme Tools’ site and recommendation that she should wait to see what their Cyber Monday deal looks like. Right now there’s a $25 off $100+ promo, but they might have a 20% Cyber Monday coupon again this year.
But then I saw Amazon’s price. At the moment, it’s $489, and minus $25 off $100+ promo, and the out-the-door price is $464 plus tax. Shipping is free.
$464 is a very good deal on Dewalt’s scroll saw. That’s as good a price there is right now.
Dewalt’s DW788 scroll saw is extremely popular, and it’s the kind of tool that doesn’t have a lot of competition, and as such, it is very rarely discounted.
The Dewalt scroll saw is currently $489 at a few retailers, and as much as $560-570 at others, presumably to absorb some of the costs to ship this beast.
If Acme Tools has another Cyber Monday deal this year, and it’s a 20% discount like last year, that would bring the price down to $424, baring any unforeseen exclusions. If they price rises to $570 before discount, the final price would be $456 after discount.
So the choice is to buy it for $464 from Amazon right now, or wait to see if Acme Tools, or another retailer, will have it for less as part of their Black Friday or Cyber Monday 2017 promos.
It’s a risk, to give up a $464 price in hopes of a better one, but personally I’d take the risk and wait and see.

The same applies to some other specialty tools. Black Friday and holiday deals tend to be centered around highly competitive tool categories. If you want a discount on a more specialized tool or equipment, chances are you’ll have to wait for a good percent-off offer. Or maybe a “buy more save more” offer.
Or send a request my way. I’ve been scrutinizing these deals for years, and might have a tip to share. At the least, I can keep a lookout for deals on what you’re looking for. I can’t make promises, but I’m willing to try.
Have you seen a better deal on this scroll saw?
