You asked for tool deals so bad they’ll keep your wallets closed, so here they are!

A few readers have been complaining about the “I gotta have it!” nature of some of the tool deals I’ve been posting about. So, here are 2 Dewalt cordless deals that are so super-sucky, I felt compelled to complain about ’em.
Over at Home Depot, their “two FREE Dewalt tools or batteries” cordless promo is still going strong, as are other deals of that nature.
It’s actually a fantastic deal. But here’s the thing. ALL of the tool combos have been SOLD OUT for 2 WEEKS now. Here, see for yourself.
Are they waiting until you spend your entire tool budget before they restock? Seriously – what’s going on? Nothing could have been subbed-in?
[Try to] Buy Now (and be disappointed when you find out you can’t)
*Maybe* Dewalt and Home Depot are working on a December resupply. But will most interested customers have already settled on a different combo kit by then?
Did these kits all sell out early, or were they never in stock? I’m guessing that everything went out of stock when that featured drill and impact driver combo kit went out of stock.
They have a similar deal in stores. Is this a way to make the deals in-store-only to drive foot traffic?
I have no idea what’s going on here, or why. I just know that there’s a killer deal I’d love to draw your attention to, but it’s pointless because you can’t (easily?) take advantage of it.
Next, Amazon has a similar deal going on right now. Well, kind of.

There were 3 eligible combo kits, now I see that there are only 2. Okay. So buy the brushless hammer drill and impact driver kit in a FlexVolt and compact battery kit, or a 2x 4.0Ah version of the kit, get your choice of 2 free battery or tool options.
But there are only 5 options?!!
Last year’s “bonus free tool” promo gave you 15 options. If you bought a somewhat over-priced 5.0Ah starter kit, you had your choice of 2 free bare tools. It was a very good deal.
The deal came back in April, and with bonus savings on some tools. There were 21 bare tool options to choose from.
That’s why this current Amazon promo sucks so bad. Forgive my language, but how else would you describe it. These are among the least-compelling cordless power tool deals I’ve seen so far this season.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s actually a GREAT deal, but only if you want that drill and impact kit and 2 out of the following 5 options:
- 2x 3.0Ah battery 2-pack
- 5.0Ah battery pack
- Compact vacuum
- LED spotlight
- Brushed motor angle grinder
Why is the “free tool” selection so limited? This is Amazon we’re talking about – they could do better, and a lot better at that.
Home Depot’s similar deal gives you 10 options online, in 14 combinations. There might be more combinations available in stores. But, those 10 options include “core” tools and universally-benefiting accessories, such as a circular saw, reciprocating saw, and 2-port charger.
The selection in Amazon’s deal looks more like a “bottom of the barrel” post-holiday season clearance sale, not a “live for Cyber Monday” type of deal.
So, there you have it – 2 tool deals that will keep your wallets in your pockets. One of them, because you can’t buy any of the promo bundles, and the other because you probably won’t be interested in two of the free bonus tool offerings, at least compared to the other retailer’s selection.
