For the past few years, there have been Dewalt hand tool “special buys” at Home Depot every holiday season. The strange thing is, I don’t think I’ve seen many repeating deals. Every year there are slightly different bundles and hand tools on sale.
Want more tool deals? Here They Are!
And for the most part, these aren’t cheapened tools that are compromised in some way for the sake of lower pricing, at least not to my knowledge.
If I had to guess, I would say that Dewalt and Home Depot lower their margins on these tools, maybe even taking a loss, in order to achieve wider brand familiarity. If someone buys, uses, and is happy with a hand tool they pick up during Home Depot’s holiday deals, maybe that will make them more inclined to buy Dewalt power tools, power tool accessories and other hand tools?
Anyway, now to the deals:
Dewalt MaxFit Screwdriver Set (22pc)

These are Dewalt’s MaxFit screwdrivers – new for 2015. I first checked them out at Dewalt’s media event. Here’s a closer look at the new MaxFit screwdrivers, Dewalt mechanics tools, and hand tools for this year.

The handles are new, and quite nice. Very grippy.
I think this is one of Home Depot’s more appealing special buy or gift set offerings this year. It’s the same price as the regularly stocked 4pc screwdriver set, but comes with an additional bit holding screwdriver and bit assortment.
Price: $20
Dewalt Trigger Clamps (4pc Set)

At first glance, I thought this was a decent-looking Dewalt trigger clamp set.
You get (2) 6-inch clamps, and (2) 12-inch clamps.

It looks like the 12-inch model can double as a spreader, but not the 6-inch one.
Ben pointed out to me that the 6-inch model can only exert 100 lbs of clamping pressure, and the 12-in model 300 lbs.
100 lbs isn’t too bad, but don’t consider these to be heavy duty clamps, at least not the smaller ones.
I’d consider this a so-so deal. I bought packs of similar Irwin trigger clamps a couple of years ago, and while also light duty they’ve held up well. I always use something else for heavier duty clamping tasks.
This same set was $35 last year.
Price: $30
Dewalt 34pc Mechanics Tool Set

I don’t know if I’d consider this a great deal or not. Yes, it seems to be a nice compact assortment, and yes I do like Dewalt’s mechanics tools. But the price seems “regular,” if you know what I mean. Maybe that just means it’s a good bargain year-round if or where you can find it?
You get a 3/8″ ratchet, an extension, a size adapter, a 1/4″ hex to 1/4″ square adapter, and an assortment of 1/4″ and 3/8″ sockets in inch and metric sizes.
Update: I knew it! This set is priced at around $45 to $50 thru some other Dewalt dealers, and I found it for cheaper – $35 – at Amazon, although in very limited supply.
The set sold elsewhere is model DWMT73804, this one is model DWMT73804D. It’s unclear as to how it’s different, but model DWMT73804D is only sold at Home Depot.
At $40, it’s still a good buy, but not as fantastic as say the above screwdriver set.
Price: $40
