Over at Home Depot, they have a ToughSystem tool box combo set on sale for $98. There’s a small catch – you can get it shipped to your home but only for a fee (I’m seeing $55), or you’ll have to wait 10-14 days for in-store pickup (at least for my zip code).
There are lots of modular tool box and storage options these days, and Dewalt’s ToughSystem line remains a competitive option.
Milwaukee’s Packout tool boxes are a little better (c’mon, you know it’s true), but right now a similar combo kit with rolling tool box, large tool box, and small tool box will cost 2X more.
I do like Packout more than ToughSystem. But unless you know that’s the system for you, the ToughSystem is a good value and for very good tool boxes.
Yes, Dewalt ToughSystem 2.0 is coming, but it’s months away, and we don’t know what the prices will be like.
It’s unusual that Dewalt ToughSystem bundles are only available at Home Depot through ship-to-store or fee-based home delivery (I guess that means it doesn’t ship via normal ground methods). I can’t confidently guess as to why.
Maybe it has something to do with Home Depot awarding the Milwaukee Packout system with innovation awards? Home Depot’s website is reporting very high Packout bundle inventories at stores.
Anyway, this is a good deal for what you get, if ToughSystem is what you want. ToughSystem 2.0 will be (mostly?) compatible with these products, in case you start with these and want to expand with more tool boxes in the future.
