I was surprised to learn that Home Depot had raised the price of their 5-gallon Homer bucket to $4.98.
My last couple of purchased Homer buckets were priced at $3.25 each, from 2018 thru the end of 2020.
This means that the price is up by more than 53% since then.
It’s unclear when this price increase took place, or if it was gradual or all at once.

Lowe’s 5-gallon buckets have also increased to $5 each.
Material, labor, and shipping costs have all increased over the past two years, and this could be a product of that.
The price of 5-gallon food-grade buckets, which I purchase from Uline on occasion, have increased as well, from $5.05 each (May 2020, 2021) to $6.25 each today (May 2022). That’s an increase of nearly 24%.
Plastic prices rose in 2021, but by the end of the year there were reports about pricing easing from their record highs. Maybe what we’re seeing here are delayed effects.
There’s one silver lining – Home Depot now offers free ship-to-home on their 5-gallon bucket, potentially saving you a trip to the store.
