Over in Europe, Bosch has come out with new NanoBlade micro chainsaw technology, and has put it to use in 3 DIY-level tools. Seeing as how these are “Bosch green” tools, if we see them in the USA, it might be under Skil branding.
Not to distract you, but the first thing I thought of was this video, which I posted briefly about 4-1/2 years ago:
There are 3 new NanoBlade-equipped saws:
- EasySaw 12 cordless multi-saw (shown above)
- EasySaw 50
- MaxSaw 50
Bosch says that the new EasySaw 12 cordless NanoBlade multi-saw is particularly suited to freehand cuts.
As for the 12 in the model number, the EasySaw 12 is powered by a 10.8V 2.5Ah Li-ion rechargeable battery pack which has a max voltage of 12V right after charging.
While NanoBlade sounds great, I’m sure they could have come up with something a little catchier than the EasySaw 12.
Zero maintenance is needed. NanoBlade chains don’t require oiling, sharpening, or tensioning.
The NanoBlade chain is user replaceable, but should deliver plenty of use before a replacement is needed.
Up to 100 meters of laminate can be cut and up to 100 meters of softwood can be sawn without needing to replace the saw blade.
Why would you want to use something like this? With a constant circular motion to the blade, compared to the oscillatory motion of a jig saw or reciprocating saw, or other similar powered saw with back-and-forth cutting motion, NanoBlade saws should greatly cut down on hand vibrations.
There will also be 2 jig saw-style models, EasySaw 50 and MaxSaw 50. Bosch says that these models should be great for tasks such as cutting shelves or flooring.
Both models feature 500W motors and dust extraction adapter to help control dust and debris.
There’s also a splinter guard for cleaner cuts, a blower function for easier visibility, and “Cut Control” transparent extension that makes it easier to guide the saw along a cut line.
Both tools can make plunge cuts into wood, which is good for creating cut-outs in the middle of a workpiece. The base plate is curved at the rear to make this easier.
The MaxSaw50 features a different base that can be tilted for cutting grooves and making miter cuts at 0 to 45° angles. There is also a base plate extension that makes the MaxSaw 50 compatible with Bosch tracksaw guide rails.
Several different blades are available for these 2 saws:
- NanoBlade Wood Basic 50 (included)
- Nano Blade Wood Speed 50
- NanoBlade Hard Wood Basic 50 (bimetal)
The cordless EasySaw 12 comes with a NanoBlade Wood Speed 65 blade.

First Thoughts
Sounds like a great idea, I want one! I really wish there was a video demo showing the new NanoBlade saws in action.
Just… don’t put it into your pocket.
